The decision to start Stella Bea Design Co. stemmed from a desire for both personal and professional growth. Through internships while in college and experiences after graduation, I worked in many different great professional environments and learned a lot alongside some incredibly experienced creatives. But one thing lacking in these more traditional design roles was the client relationship component. I wanted the freedom to build relationships with my own clients and expand my portfolio with work that I had full artistic direction over. Stella Bea Design Co. gave me this opportunity.
Choosing a name for my business was a big decision for me that came early in the development process, as it was something sort of ruminating from my life experiences at the time. 'Stella Bea' resonated with me on a personal level, paying homage to a significant woman in my life – my grandmother, Stella. The timing for this was extremely poignant. Earlier that same year I had started the business, I lost her very unexpectedly to COVID-19. It was a harsh reality to face. Though she wasn’t in the best of health, her vivacity made it seem as though she would live forever. Naming my business after her became a way to keep her spirit alive and find solace in the continuation of her legacy. And yes, the second half of the business is named after my cat “Bea”, who I would argue was a pivotal aspect in my creative journey as well. I adopted her during my first creative internship with Chewy Studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The internship was pretty rigorous and living alone for the first time was a huge adjustment for me. I can honestly say she helped me get through my time away from home.
After getting the logistics of the business together, it was a fast and furious start. One of the unexpectedly gratifying aspects of starting Stella Bea Design Co. was the immediate influx of work. It wasn't long before old colleagues reached out with job opportunities, and suddenly, I found myself with a full plate of projects from a wide and diverse group of clients. This swift start not only affirmed the demand for my skills but also laid the foundation for the new journey ahead. Fast forward almost two years, and this venture has not only broadened my network but also presented opportunities beyond my initial expectations. The meaningful connections forged and the diverse projects undertaken have not only shaped my professional trajectory but have helped me grow personally. With a full plate of clients and prospects to expand the business I have never been more excited and motivated to keep building upon this foundation I’ve built. I'm optimistic about the continued evolution of Stella Bea Design Co. and the adventures that lie ahead.
